The Vale
(2024)
Quint Molko was just your everyday, average guy: brutally attacked whilst defending a teen he has no connection to; wife finding love in the arms of another woman; boss at the broadcasters cajoled into giving a rival all the juice from the squeezer. Yet the good times can only last so long, as Quint is about to find out during another heroic act, for the benefit of an unknown, hysterical woman.
Late spring, weeks into an unprecedented Cornish heatwave, blood-curdling screams rip along Kennall Vale’s serene valley floor. Rushing to the scene, a figure frantically breaches the black surface of a flooded quarry. Diving in, Quint’s attempts at a rescue are shunned by the tortured soul. Repeatedly, she spews a single word in her foreign tongue. Her pleas are desperate… she’s not alone.
Her young son is not the only thing Quint retrieves from the waters on this fateful day. As infection sparks a debilitating fever, his health deteriorates. Hallucinations drag him into the lives of three strangers. The vicious countdown to death has begun. Can reporter Quint Molko piece together cryptic clues brought to him by delirium, in time for one ultimate, selfless sign off?

Gnarly, dark, butt clenching and funny!

A debut novel? I was very impressed. I’m an avid reader but very new to psychological thrillers and this one did not disappoint, primarily my interest was spiked because of the Cornish setting (my home) and I must say the author has a fantastic way of describing our very dramatic and quite often moody vista’s which all tied in well with the central characters. This is a very dark, twisted and sometimes; pretty damn naughty debut novel that made me cringe and laugh out loud at the same time! I was not expecting the plot twist at all……..100% worth a read a noteworthy debut. Really looking forward to see what Kevin has in store for us in the future!

Intriguing & Imaginative

Imaginative & very descriptive narrative. I am not familiar with this part of the Country, however the way the book was written soon gave me a visual picture of the area & its character. The book was written in a way that kept me intrigued all the way through. Didn't want to put it down.
The characters were diverse in their nature, which inevitably led to many relatable family conflicts. Couldn't foresee how the story would end, or the many twists & turns along the way.
Thoroughly enjoyable book.
